The F & R Lazarus & Co. charge plate credit card

Description

Charga Plate credit card with leather case. Charga plate cards were the predecessors of credit cards, issued by department stores to regular customers. They were used from the 1930s to the late 1950s. It was a 2½ in × 1¼ in rectangle of sheet metal related to Addressograph and military dog tag systems, embossed with the customer's name, city, and state, with a small paper card on its back for a signature.
